Beckstoffer Vineyards established in 1977, has become the premier grower of Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa and Lake Counties. The Georges III Vineyard, located in the heart of the Rutherford appellation in the Napa Valley was named by Andy Beckstoffer, in 1988 when he acquired the property.
It was first planted in 1895 by Mr. Thomas Rutherford, who the Rutherford wine appellation is named and later owned by the Georges de Latour family, founders of the famous Beaulieu Vineyards. The fruit from these vineyards has helped to establish the Napa Valley as a premier place to grow Cabernet Sauvignon and is one of the most sought after vineyards in California.
Since Andy Beckstoffer purchased the property all 300 acres have been replanted with modern spacing and trellising to achieve the best quality and yields from the vineyard. In 2009, 181 acres of the Georges III Vineyard were placed under a land conservation easement that forever prohibits non-agricultural development.
